Makenzie Lynn, Carbondale Area’s softball pitching standout, will continue her softball career at Shippensburg University in 2012.
Lynn recently signed her commitment to Ship where she is part of a nine player recruiting class. The class includes five players from Pennsylvania and four from Maryland.
“We couldn’t be happier with the incoming class of 2015,” said head softball coach Bob Brookens. This class brings speed, power, pitching and great defense. Thes players embody the motto “We Chose Division II. They have tons of talent and were more than capapble of playing at the Division I level but chose Ship.”
Lynn brings highly-touted credentials to the Lady Raiders’ program. During the last two seasons, Lynn has compiled 327 strikeouts, produced ERA’s of 1.97 and 1.69 and been one of the top throwers in the region.
“Makenzie is a very accomplished power pitcher who equals her power on the rubber with her power at the plate. She throws a ball that really will jump on a batter in a hurry. And Makenzie can hit one out in any at-bat. Though she had a ton of options she chose Ship because of our family atmosphere. She is going to fit right in.”
Under Brookens, Shippensburg has produced a 142-63 mark in the highly-competitive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The PSAC has produced four Division II national softball champions in the last 13 years. The Lady Raiders produced a 48-6 record in 2004.
