Francis L. Savage, Sr., age 84, of Carbondale, died Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2011.


Francis L. Savage, Sr., age 84, of Carbondale, died Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2011, at  home.  His wife was the late Regina "Jean" Gilhooley, who died January 27, 2001. 
Born February 17, 1927 in Archbald, he was the son of the late Frank A. and Lillian (Galko) Savage. 
He was a graduate of Blooming Grove Grade School and Hawley High School.  He served in the United States Navy during World War II.  He worked as a bus driver for Greyhound, truck driver and retired as a guard from Farview State Hospital, Waymart.  He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, and was an avid train collector who loved working on trains and going to train shows with his friend Ron Muir.  A special thank-you to Dr. Gregory Salko and the staff at the Whites Crossing Medical and Home Healthcare Professionals for their wonderful care.
He is survived by: two daughters - Nancy and Regina Savage, both of Carbondale; three sons - Francis Savage, Jr.; Jerry and wife Toni Costantino Savage and Michael Savage, all of Carbondale; two sisters - Virginia Selfridge and Marie Leach of Westchester and Lords Valley; a sister-in-law Joan Savage of Tafton, Pa.; five grandchildren - Samantha Stolarik, Gerilyn, April, Krista and Kaitlyn Savage; four great grandchildren - A.J. & Stephen Stolarik, Guy Anthony and Joseph Dean Mushow aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: one son, John "Tiny" Savage; and one brother, Richard Savage.
The funeral was held from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rose of Lima Church by his cousin Rev. Peter Herhenreader, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale.  Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.
