Gertrude T. “Trudy” Zerchak, 72, of Simpson died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Marian Community Hospital, surrounded by her husband and daughters. She and her husband, Jacob J. Zerchak, had been married for 52 years.
Born in Richmondale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Hoholick Dovin.
She was a graduate of Fell High School, Simpson. She had been employed in the garment industry.
She was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, former Holy Trinity Church.
Trudy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister who loved to cook and bake for her family. She was meticulous at sewing and enjoyed most hobbies and crafts.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of the Forest City Nursing Home for the wonderful care and compassion they gave her.
She is also survived by: two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Donald McDonough, Waymart; Darlene and Michael Galinsky, Carbondale Twp.; four brothers — Joseph, Browndale; Eugene “Jim”, Richmondale; Edward, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and Robert Dovin, Forest City; three sisters — Joyce Sheppard, Schenectady, N.Y.; Carol Surace, Whites Crossing and Paulette Niedopytalski, Great Bend; five grandchildren — Desiree and Donald McDonough, Michael, Keith and Randy Galinsky, nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 26, from the Joseph W Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael’s Church, 46 Midland St, Simpson, celebrated by the Rev. Joseph S. Sitko. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Simpson.
