Rosemary Scalzo Pettinato, 81, of Carbondale, died Monday evening, March 12, 2012, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Theresa Baker, R.N., and Mark Baker, Waymart. Her husband, Carmino Pettinato, died in 1997.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Frank and Philomena Cerra Scalzo, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and a treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was employed at Hoole Lumber Co. in Simpson after her high school graduation. She was then employed by the First National Bank of Carbondale and continued with the Pioneer American Bank, where she was head of the bookkeeping department during her banking years. She was a member of the American Institute of Banking. For many years, she was also a notary. She loved working for her son, Dr. Peter Pettinato, as a receptionist at Finch Hill Veterinary Clinic.
She enjoyed being with her grandchildren every chance she had. She was always seen with her faithful companion, her dog, Rusty. She was an excellent seamstress and an avid reader.
Family members would like to thank her nurse's aide, Colleen Mowery, for the care given to their mother.
Also surviving are: two sons — Dr. Peter Pettinato and wife, Maggie, Greenfield Twp.; and Carmino Pettinato Jr. and wife, Barbara, Carbondale; two grandchildren, James and Victoria Pettinato; a sister-in-law, Connie Pettinato, Carbondale; a brother-in-law, Patrick Pettinato, Carbondale; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by: a brother, Basil Scalzo; a sister, Rosella Catino; a brother-in-law, Peter David Pettinato; and a sister-in-law, Madelyn Pettinato.
The funeral was held Friday, March 16, from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home, 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
