Compromised of founders, friends and graduates, a committee was recently formed to plan the 30th Anniversary Celebration for Leadership Lackawanna (LL). The event will be held on Thursday, June 14, at 6 PM at The University of Scranton’s Patrick and Margaret DeNaples Center. The cost is $25 per person or $45 per couple. It will feature a cocktail reception, “wall of fame collage” and the premiere of a historical video highlighting and honoring Leadership Lackawanna’s 30 years of achievements. The 30th Anniversary celebration is co-chaired by Patricia Acker, LL Class of 1983 and Mark Volk, LL Class of 2006.
On June 22, 1982, community leaders Governor and Mrs. William W. Scranton, Austin J. Burke, Jeanne Bovard, H. Leigh Woehling and Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan, had an idea about developing a program for the professional business community and created Leadership Lackawanna (LL).
Now, 30 years later, Leadership Lackawanna is NEPA’s premier leadership and professional development organization. Its three programs - teen, core and executive - enhance the skills and knowledge of emerging citizens and advanced professionals, enabling them to better serve in their organizations and communities.
“Thirty years ago, Leadership Lackawanna was launched to train a new generation of community leaders, in the hopes of providing more volunteers for community organizations, social services agencies and civic groups. As part of the first class, I have seen those hopes fulfilled by over 1,400 Leadership graduates who have volunteered tens of thousands of volunteer hours to our community. We have served on boards, raised funds, built playgrounds and even picked up litter. I am looking forward to celebrating the success of Leadership Lackawanna with its founders, its community partners and my fellow graduates,” said Patricia Acker, LL Class of 1983 graduate and co-chair of LL 30th Anniversary celebration.
Leadership Lackawanna is northeastern Pennsylvania’s premier leadership development organization. Its three programs – Core, Executive, and Tomorrow’s Leaders Today – enhance the skills and knowledge of emerging citizens and advanced professionals, enabling them to better serve in their organization and communities.
Established in 1982 under the guidance of The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Lackawanna has graduated more than 1,400 community leaders. To learn more, go to www.leadershiplackawanna.com or call (570)342-7711.
