A Mayfield man was arrested on assault charges after allegedly attacking and seriously injuring a man outside a city bar.
Shaun Lynady, 28, of Mayfield is accused in the attack against Jason Rhodes, 39, of 8 Copeland Ave., which took place outside Moran’s Tavern on South Main Street.
According to the criminal complaint, Rhodes was walking out of the bar just after 2:30 a.m. on March 10 when Lynady came up from behind him and punched him in the left side of the face.  The sucker punch reportedly knocked Rhodes unconscious to the sidewalk, then Lynady continued striking Rhodes in the facial area with a closed fist as he lay helpless on the ground.
Lynady only stopped when someone screamed to call the police.  The criminal complaint states that Lynady fled the scene on foot at that point, and police arrived shortly thereafter.
Rhodes sustained injury to the left side of his face, which caused his left eye to swell and close shut.  Officer Joseph Janczak also observed blood on his face near his swollen and shut eye.
Two witnesses were interviewed — Robert Kimmel of 173 South Church St. and John Heuskin of 50 Farview St. — as part of the investigation.
Rhodes was transported to Community Medical Center in Scranton, where it was determined that he sustained a left orbital fracture and a bleed in the brain from the attack.
Lynady was arrested via warrant on March 12 on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and harassment.
He was remanded to Lackawanna County Prison.  Bail was set at $25,000.
Officer Janczak filed the criminal complaint.
