The Lackawanna League finishes first half basketball play this week.
Special playoffs may be needed later this week or early next week to determine first half crowns but that won’t be determined until the first half ends tomorrow night (Thurs.).
As teams turn towards the second half, they’ll start gazing down the road to post season action and where they’ll be positioned in the seeding slots for league playoffs leading to upcoming district play.
Division II Boys
Unbeatens, Riverside and Holy Cross met last night (Tues.) in a game that may have decided the first half crown.
Riverside is ranked No. 6 in the state in Class AA and has showcased a relentless defense.
The Vikings and Holy Cross are expected to be the top D-II teams the rest of the way.
Carbondale Area (4-9 overall) heads into second half action seeking improvement in taking care of the ball, field goal shooting and foul shooting.
The Chargers, who have turned the ball over 16 times per game, are shooting 37.1% from the field and 54.5% from the charity stripe.
Tom Mauro tops the squad in scoring (115), assists (25) and rebounds (55). Ben Gardus is second in scoring (101) while Isaiah McCord is third (96) in scoring and second in rebounding (50).
The Chargers are scoring 41.5 ppg and yielding 52.2 ppg..
Division III
At Forest City, the Foresters (1-10 overall) have been led by Noah Fedak (102 points), Dylan Walsh (66) and David Cavalieri (64).
The Foresters are averaging 40.8 ppg and surrendering 52.5 ppg.
At Lakeland, the Chiefs (7-6 overall) are averaging 58.8 ppg and yielding 53.6 ppg. Kyle Kiehart (222 points) leads the way while Eric Grabowski (186) and Mike Striefsky (98) follow.
Division II Girls
The Chargerettes (1-11 overall) are averaging 33.2 ppg and giving up 55.4 ppg.
Sarah Totsky (100 points), Molly Carachilo (88) and Audrey Gardus (59) top the scoring.
Division III

Proposal Change
Next season, the Lackwanna League may become a four-division circuit. It has yet to be officially voted on.
Division 4 will be this season’s Division 3 minus Lakeland. Division 3 will consist of this season’s Division 2 adding Lakeland and sending Valley View and Western Wayne to the new Division 2.
Teams will play their own division in a home and away series and D-3 and D-4 will cross over with one team for a home and away game.
A decision has not been made on whether a first and second half will be played or just one straight season.
