Gina Maria Morgese, Carbondale, was awarded two medals at Marywood University’s 2017 commencement ceremony: the Judith Piznar Medal for Leadership and Service to Youth and the Jenkins-Colis Gilroy Medal for Excellence in Undergraduate Social Work.

The Piznar Medal was founded in memory of Judy Piznar by her parents, Robert and Catherine Piznar. The Gilroy Medal was founded by the Bachelor of Social Work students in memory of Brian Jenkins, class of 1979, and Patricia Colis Gilroy, class of 1976.

The daughter of Ronald Morgese and Carla Cerra-Morgese, she graduated from Holy Cross High School, Dunmore, Pa., and received a bachelor of social work degree from Marywood University.

While a student at Marywood, Ms. Morgese was a member of Big House, a Christian student community; Caritas Club, the undergraduate social work club; she is a Maxis-Gillet Service Scholar, a scholarship given in support of service to local, national, and international communities; and she was a member of alternative break service trips.

In addition, she has volunteered at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale, Pa.; Capuchin Youth and Family Ministries service trips; and Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters service trips.
