CARBONDALE – The Carbondale Area school board approved changes to personnel
The May school board meeting opened with a moment of silence for former business manager Violet Bonacci.
The board approved payment to Fell Charter school in the amount of $107,921.85.
Joe Totsky was appointed Board Treasurer effective July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017.
Michelle Caviston was appointed cheerleader advisor for the 2017-2018 school year. Caviston was also appointed paraprofessional for 2017 extended school year summer program.
Lauren Pizzichemi was appointed girls assistant soccer coach for the coming school year as well.
Athletic director Larson also submitted a lsit of fall and winter coaches for the 2017-2018 school year, which were approved by the board.
Erika Totsky was appointed as occupational therapist for the 2017 extended school year summer program.
Mr. Otner and Mrs. Bohlig were appointed special education teachers for the 2017 extended school year program. The rest of the list of employees for the elementary 2017 extended school year were approved by the board.
Two people were added to the bus driver list submitted by J.W. Transit, Inc., transportation coordinator for the district. Patricia Connolly was added effective May 1 and Dane Barhite was added effective May 5, 2017.
Two others were approved for personal transportation of students during the extended school year program. Donald Kennedy was approved at a rate of $65 a day to transport a student to the Career Technology Center. Joseph Lucas was approved at a rate of $60 a day to transport a student to the Dickson City Civic Center effective June 19, 2017.
Two Cottage Hose vans were approved to transports two students during the extended school year program. One student is transported to Carbondale Area for $54 a day, and the other is transported to Dunmore for $81 a day.
Twenty three vans were approved for summer programs as submitted by the transportation contractor.
Carol Buddie was added to the substitute paraprofessional, secretary and cafeteria listsfor the remainder of the current school year.
Use of School Facilities
Several organizations were given permission to use school property for their events at no cost to the district.
The Elementary PTA was granted permission to use the Andrew J. Cerra and Barbara Consagra Sports Complex on October 28, 2017 for the second annual Walk, Run or Roll 5K Anti-Bully Run.
The Wayne Lackawanna Forest Landowners Association will use the high school auditorium and cafeteria for a program on May 26 and October 26, 2017.
Future Outfitters 4-H Club was approved use of the high school parking lot on June 17, 2017 for their annual car wash.
The 2017-2018 school year will begin on August 24, 2017 for teachers and August 29, 2017 for students. The end of the school year is tentatively set at June 8, 2018.
A special General Board meeting was set for May 31 at 7 p.m. to approve the tentative 2017-2018 General Fund Budget.
The following bids were awarded for the 2017-2018 school year:
Janitorial Supplies: $21,565.16
General Supplies: $13,157.92.
Art Supplies: $6,251.73
Science Supplies: $3,939.33
Industrial Arts Supplies: $6,124.50.
Total supplies bid for next school year comes to $51,038.64.
Tuition waivers for three students were approved for the coming school year, as part of the Act 93 Professional Compensation Plan.
Robert Mehalick was approved to sign electronic agreements with between the district and Department of Education.
The board also approved the Resolution Opposing Charter School Provisions Under House Bill 97 and the Resolution Calling for Reform of Funding for Cyber Charter Schools.
A motion was made and approved to discard the district's 1997 Ford Escort. They also made and approved the motion to donate the old basketball scoreboard to LaSalle Academy in Jessup.
Magdon Music was hired to repair high school auditorium lighting for a quote of $7,627.17.
Beginning June, regular monthly school board meetings will occur the third Monday at 7:15 p.m.
