Joseph W. Farrell, principal of Carbondale Area High School, has announced the following honor graduates of the Class of 2017:

Valedictorian

Shannon Pendergrast has been selected as Carbondale Area’s Valedictorian for this year’s graduating class.

At Carbondale Area, Shannon has used the many gifts and talents acquired to attain a commendable scholastic and extracurricular record.

Shannon is currently ranked first out of approximately 115 students in the senior class. Shannon is a member of the National Honor Society and the Distinguished Honor Roll.

Shannon is also a member of the Spanish Club, Physics Club, Science/Technology Club and the Scholastic Bowl Team.

Shannon has played the clarinet in the Marching Band throughout high school.

Kathleen and Thomas Pendergrast, Carbondale are Shannon’s parents.

Salutatorian

Baylee Carey has been chosen as the Class of 2017’s Salutatorian. Baylee has had a commendable scholastic and extracurricular record while attending Carbondale Area.

She is currently ranked second out of 115 students in the senior class.

Baylee is also a member of the Physics Club & Spanish Club. Athletically, Baylee has been a four year member of our softball team.

Baylee Carey has been accepted into Appalachian State University where she will be studying Exercise Science. Baylee is the daughter of Tracy Carey & Jason Carey, both of Carbondale.

Third Academic Honor

Anna Totsky, daughter of Dan Totsky and Kris Probst of Carbondale, is the third academic honor of the Class of 2017.

Anna has been involved in many extracurricular activities throughout her high school career. Anna is currently the Secretary of the Physics Club. She is also Treasurer of Student Council.

Anna has been a 6 year member of the National Honor Society as well as a six year member of the Academic Honors Program. Anna is a member of SADD, Medical Careers Club, Spanish Club, Library Club & Science and Technology Club.

Anna was very active athletically at CA also, participating for four years on our high school basketball and softball teams and for two years on our volleyball team.

After graduation, Anna plans to attend the University of Scranton where she will pursue a degree in Nursing.
