Perhaps likened to an old movie, the folks at Just Believe Recovery Center believe that if they hold their new fundraising car show event, people will come on July 22nd.

“We haven’t done this before,” said Rich Mroczka, the Center’s Compliance Manager. “But we’ve actually been planning to hold a fundraising car show for the last two years. Car shows are very popular with a lot of people – both with the participating car owners and folks who just like to go out to see old cars – so getting a show date is difficult because there are so many shows throughout the area during much of the year. When we planned our event, we wanted to make sure that there weren’t too many other shows to compete with ours. We got lucky! … there’s no other car show scheduled for July 22nd, so we’re anticipating some great attendance.”

Dubbed Cruisin’ for Recovery, Just Believe’s upcoming event will be held in the Center’s upper parking lot at 141 Salem Avenue. “We can comfortably accommodate up to 150 cars,” added Mroczka. “The show is open to the public from 3:00pm-8:00pm, and there’s no admission. But since this is a fundraiser, we’ll have a donation bucket. We’ll also have a bake sale and picnic foods and cold beverages available for sale. There’ll be a 50/50 and numerous raffle baskets available too.”

Mroczka also noted that “there are no specific requirements to enter or participate in our show. It’s wide open, so everyone can cruise on up to join us. And similar to other car shows, there’ll be some door prizes and trophies too. We’ll also have some DJ music, and the Carbondale area’s Coal Crackers Car Club has generously offered their help with mics and traffic control. They’ve already been a huge help posting publicity flyers and talking-up our event. This is our first annual show, but it’s going to be a FUN day for sure!” For those less familiar with car shows, these events generally include ‘classic’ cars, trucks, and motorcycles that are at least 15 years old and ‘antique’ vehicles that are 25 years and older.

Cruisin’ for Recovery is being held to specifically benefit Just Believe’s Alumni Association, ‘A Pocket Full of H.O.P.E.’ “This particular group is like a safe harbor, providing an opportunity for clients to continue moving forward, continually maintaining a sober life in a safe and sober environment,” said Stephanie Robbins, Alumni Coordinator. “Those who have gone through our Just Believe Recovery program don’t just leave here afterward. A Pocket Full of H.O.P.E. is very recovery-oriented and is another level of their ongoing care that’s also deeply rooted in the 12 steps of recovery.

“Our H.O.P.E. acronym stands for Homes, Opportunity, Principals, and Education,” Robbins explained, “and it’s structured, sober living designed to help people in the early recovery transition from treatment to individual recovery. Our Alumni Program is designed to keep individuals who’ve completed the program connected and supported through a variety of different ways, including weekly meetings, groups, special events and trips, and our annual reunions. It’s also important for recovering alumni to become involved and to give back to the community. That’s where fundraising events like our car show come in, as our clients have a sense of excitement and fulfillment to help the community while helping raise funds for their future events and to help other alumni in need. It’s a win-win for everyone too.”

The Just Believe Recovery Center opened in the former Marian Community Hospital site in May 2015. Founded by Executive Director Ms. Cynthia Bellino, she has more than 20 years of experience in the field of substance abuse. And her staff realizes that each person seeking rehabilitation has different needs and different causes for them. Therefore, the Center’s mission is to provide the highest level of personalized care and treatment to each client, with a licensed skilled and experienced staff-to-client ratio that demonstrates concern and compassion for each client in a direct, respectful, and honest manner. The Center – accommodating up to 55 clients in detox and residence and 60 in outpatients – provides a safe and serene environment that creates an atmosphere conducive to recovery and change.

The defined goal of Just Believe is to provide clients with the personalized tools to recover from the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of drug and/or alcohol addiction. Left untreated, the Center recognizes that these addictions are progressive illnesses that can often leave an addict feeling helpless, hopeless, and unloved. Just Believe fulfills Bellino’s life-long dream of providing a continuum of care under a clinical team’s direction that assists drug addicts and alcoholics through their journey to find a new way of life. The Center consistently conveys the message, “We believe” that recovery is possible for everyone.
