Carl Samuel “Sam” Bilotta, 63, of Whites Crossing, died Monday at the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications resulting from his courageous battle with cancer.
His wife and best friend, the former Susan Mary Smith died on December 1, 2014.
The couple married in 1977 and would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this November.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Carl “Buster” and Dorthy Mattise Bilotta, he was an active member of Saint Rose of Lima Parish, Carbondale, where he shared his love of music with its choir.
He was a 1971 graduate of Saint Rose High School, Carbondale; and he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University.
Prior to retirement, he was employed at the Lakeland School District where he was a 4th grade teacher for over 30 years.
As an artist, he painted murals on the walls of the building he taught in.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Moses Taylor Hospital, Golden Living Center, Scranton, the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and HHCP Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Sam.
Surviving are a son: Carl Bilotta and wife Theresa, Youngsville, NC; a daughter: Kateri Race and husband Greg, Whites Crossing; 8 grandchildren: Victoria, James, Anthony, Elijah, Madison, Cecilia, Philip, and Rose; a brother: Vincent Bilotta, Ellenville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral is Aug. 4 from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, , with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Saint Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale.
Interment, Our Mother of Sorrow Cemetery, Finch Hill.
