Kaitlyn Savage has been selected as Carbondale Area’s Scholar of the Year for the 2017-18 school year. The Northeastern Educational Intermediate Unit 19 and WUSR-FM (99.5 FM), radio station of the University of Scranton, sponsor the “Scholar of the Year” program.

Kaitlyn has had a commendable scholastic and extracurricular record while attending Carbondale Area. Kaitlyn is currently ranked first out of approximately 115 students in the senior class.

Kaitlyn is a member of the National Honor Society and the Distinguished Honor Roll. Kaitlyn is also a member of the Spanish & Library Clubs, Treasurer of the Physics Club, the Scholastic Bowl Team, & Prom and Yearbook Committees.

Rose Hessing and Michael Savage, Carbondale are Kaitlyn’s parents.

When asked what being selected for this honor feels like and Kaitlyn replied, "I am happy to be recognized and would like to thank my parents and teachers for making my accomplishments possible". Kaitlyn hopes to attend Misericordia University to pursue a degree in Math Education on the middle school level.
