This holiday season, law enforcement will increase patrols looking for drunk drivers. If they catch you drinking and driving, you will be pulled over and arrested. Don’t put yourself, your passengers, and others at risk this holiday season by drinking and driving. Remember: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Local and state police will be out conducting roaming patrols and DUI check points over the next two week to keep drivers safe over this holiday season.


Lackawanna County

Long Term

SR 1012, Archbald Borough- At the intersection of Kennedy Drive and County Road, work is taking place to form a four-way intersection with the opposite Borough street. A new traffic signal will be installed at this intersection as well, and Kennedy Drive will be widened to accommodate a center turn lane from Main Street to Monica Drive. An additional left turn lane may be added on Main for left turns on to Kennedy Drive. The project should be completed by the summer of 2018.

SR 3013 - Work is taking place on the bridge located in the 800 block of S. Main Street in Taylor over the PA turnpike. Two 11 ft. lanes will remain open during construction. This should be completed by November.

Bridge Now Open to traffic . SR 6011(Harrison Avenue), Scranton - As part of the ongoing project to replace the Harrison Avenue Bridge, the Central Scranton Expressway is a single lane pattern in each direction. This project is expected to be completed in 2018.  Traffic will be able to use the new bridge mid-December.  The project completion is 2018.

SR 438 Lackawanna County to your long term construction list. SR 438 is closed over Elm Brook at Hopfer Road for a bridge replacement Project. Road to reopen in December. Detours in place.

Open Friday, December 29, 2017 SR 4032  the rehabilitation and improvement of a certain section of STATE HIGHWAY in LACKAWANNA COUNTY, SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, STATE ROUTE 4032, SECTION 250. This project will replace the existing slab on the bridge under the concrete arch associated with the DL&W Railroad with a new slab. This project is located on SR 4032 Shady Lane Road in South Abington Township over Summit Lake Creek under the railroad arch. MPT during construction will be a detour. Other work includes bituminous paving, line painting and guiderail work

State Police will be conducting DUI sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols over the New Year’s holiday weekend. The stepped-up enforcement effort will begin Friday and run through Monday. The checkpoints and patrols will be conducted under a zero-tolerance policy. Luzerne County is experiencing a high rate of DUI-related traffic violations and accidents.

SR 29 between Exit 2 and Exit 3- There is currently a single lane closure in both directions for work on the South Valley Parkway Project. The lane closures are scheduled to last for the next 12 months. Routine blasting will occur throughout this area. There will be rolling roadblocks during blasting. Middle Road was closed and detoured April 3, 2017, and will reopen in November of 2017. Kosciuszko Street will be closed July 10, 2017 and reopened in September of 2017. Prospect Street will be closed in the summer of 2018 and reopen in November 2018.

SR 415 (The Dallas 5-Leg project)- The Dallas 5-Leg project is a cooperative project between The Back Mountain Council of Governments, local municipalities, and PennDOT.  Work includes the realignment of SR 1041 (Upper Demunds Road) and the installation of a new single-lane roundabout at the 5-Leg Intersection in Dallas Borough.  Throughout the course of work, periodic detours will be in place and significant delays are anticipated. This project is expected to be completed by June of 2019. Church St in Dallas will be closed from Wednesday, October 11 through Tuesday, October 31 for 21 days.  Lake St will be open to businesses but not SR 415.  Road closing signs will be moved on Lake St to parking lots of businesses.   Church St be open at the bottom of the hill for access to CVS and the Post Office. Lake St in Dallas will be closed starting on Tuesday, August 29 for one year as part of the Dallas Roundabout project.  A detour will be in place from Center Hill Rd to Sterling Ave and back to Machell Rd.

SR 7220- Bridge Replacement of County Bridge #26304 that carries Old Route 11 (Main Street) over Toby Creek in Kingston Township. The proposed bridge will include concrete abutments with spread footings. A one mile detour will be utilized during construction. Other work includes bituminous paving, line painting and guiderail work. This is a local project, not a PennDOT project. This project is expected to be completed by July of 2019.
