Joseph W. Farrell, principal of Carbondale Area High School, has announced the following honor graduates of the Class of 2018:

Valedictorian

Kaitlyn Savage has been chosen as Valedictorian of the Class of 2018. Kaitlyn has had a commendable scholastic and extracurricular record while attending Carbondale Area. Kaitlyn is currently ranked first out of approximately 115 students in the senior class. Kaitlyn is a member of the National Honor Society and the Distinguished Honor Roll. Kaitlyn is also a member of the Spanish & Library Clubs, Treasurer of the Physics Club, the Scholastic Bowl Team, & Prom and Yearbook Committees.

Rose Hessing and Michael Savage, Carbondale are Kaitlyn’s parents.

SALUTATORIAN –Christina Carachilo has been chosen as the Class of 2018’s Salutatorian.

Christina has had a commendable scholastic and extracurricular record while attending Carbondale Area. She is currently ranked second out of 115 students in the senior class. Christina is a member of the National Honor Society. She holds the offices of Treasurer of the Spanish Club. Christina is also a member of the PJAS, Yearbook Club, Library Club, Varsity Basketball & Volleyball, Physics Club and Student Council. In addition, she was a member of the YMCA Youth Board and a member of Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.

Christina Carachilo has been accepted into the University of Scranton’s Neuroscience/PreMed program. Christina plans to be a pediatrician.

Christina is the daughter of Dominick and Mary Carachilo Carbondale.

Third Academic Honor – Amelia Zazzera, daughter of Steve and Alicia Zazzera of Carbondale, is the third academic honor of the Class of 2018. Amelia has been involved in many extracurricular activities throughout her high school career. Amelia is also secretary of the Physics Club, Vice President of the Spanish Club, Treasurer of Student Council and Treasurer of National Honor Society. Amelia is also a member of the Library Club and Medical Careers. Amelia participated in PJAS for 6 years winning many first-place awards. Amelia has been a 6-year member of the National Honor Society as well as a six-year member of the Academic Honors Program. Amelia has also participated in sports at CA. She was on the Varsity Basketball and Volleyball teams throughout her four years here. After graduation, Amelia plans to attend Penn State University where she will pursue a degree in biology.

Carbondale Area’s Commencement is set for June 15, 2018.
