Michelle Rupp of Carbondale recently filled the position of Member Services Coordinator at The Greater Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. In this position, she will be acting as an advocate for the about 350 businesses and professionals associated with the Chamber.
What is your job? I assist the Chamber in serving its loyal group of existing members and in expanding membership. I am responsible for providing each member with exceptional networking, advertising and educational opportunities. Through various events, as well as the website and Facebook group, I try to raise awareness of what our members have to offer their communities. I’m working with the Chamber board of directors on the 7th Annual Dinner event, plus creating the 2012 Membership Directory and Visitor's Guide for the Chamber's service area.
What do you like about your job? There’s a sense of pride when it comes to serving my local community. Many people underestimate the importance of small businesses in their neighborhood. I firmly believe that those businesses act as the backbone of our community. Without support for local businesses, there is no room for economic growth, and without economic growth our towns would suffer greatly.
What is your community service experience?
While in college, I worked with the Office of University Relations, and was involved in planning university sponsored events and developing marketing materials. I interned at The Salem Maritime National Historic Site, located in Salem, Massachusetts, where I developed an educational Junior Ranger Program for the park's younger visitors which continues to be used at the site. For the last 10 years I have worked in the customer service sector.
What is your goal for the Chamber? My main goal is to help the Chamber membership and the community soar to new heights. I hope to establish the Chamber as a great asset and staple in our area by advocating for our region's economic future.
