Offering web development and hosting, design and graphics, and effective general technology management, along with community information services, Hill View has been serving its specialized computer services to Fortune 100 customers and the local community for 20 yeas.
How did your business start? After college and during the 1980s, I oversaw technology R&D, database development and hardware integration for Boston subsidies of Nynex and GE. Over time, I’ve worked in virtually every aspect of the design, creation, and implementation of computer systems. But by 1989, work had become so overwhelming and intense that I wanted to return home to Clifford to work for myself. In 1991, Hill View Inc. was created, and I initially worked out of the house. For a while I did some general consulting for various local companies, including Adams Cable where I began integrating computers with cable devices. As I got more actively involved in internet development and integration, I opted to diversify to build up the Hill View business itself. I renovated the old barn on the property and turned it into a full-time office, with conference space and all the computer set-ups needed for my work.
What services do you offer? I develop web sites and web applications, including domain name and set-ups, hosting, and maintenance, plus 3D Studio.com, which is the largest 2D and 3D internet resource site. I also offer print layout, photography, and design and content creation to both commercial and residential clients. In 1997 the ElkMountainArea.com website (www.elkmtnarea.com) was established as the area’s all-season information source for goods, services, things to do, and places to go. Last year alone, the site had more than 25,000 visitors and now also features Elk Mountain Wanderlist that links businesses, residents and visitors to our area with one another. Service fees are comfortably structured and customized for each individual situation to provide clients with the most cost-effective promotional media.
Who are your customers?
My clients are in New Jersey and others near Philadelphia. But most of my customers are local, from Tunkhannock to Honesdale, Wilkes-Barre, and Binghamton, and I can service them via email or with in-person conferencing right here. I try to make things as simple as possible by providing an effective way to market businesses. Some might wonder why I’ve opted to work from this rural location rather than in a larger metropolitan area. Frankly, I thoroughly enjoy this area, and I get great pleasure from working in a business that I love doing and that can help my neighbors.
What’s next? To support the growing need for effective social media management, Hill View’s goal by year-end is to provide customers with a facility to add information once via a webpage form. The plan is to have that information populated across several media outlets, including the client’s own website, as well as Facebook, Twitter, and the Wanderlist web page and weekly email. I’m not aware of any other area facility that does this.
