Monuments By Parise of Carbondale and Clifford has announced the completion of two memorials in Scranton - the Benjamin Franklin Firefighter Memorial and the Samuel Penneypacker Police Memorial.
Benjamin Franklin, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, started the first fire company in Philadelphia in 1736, known as the Bucket Brigade. The memorial has a life size bronze statue of a fireman carrying a child in his arms. It sits on India Red granite and is engraved with the firefighter’s prayer and the names of the Scranton firefighters killed in the line of duty. It is placed at Scranton City Hall next to the fire department and was dedicated on May 7, 2011.
Samuel Penneypacker was the governor who created the Pennsylvania State Police Department. This memorial also has a life size bronze statue of a policeman holding the hand of a child who is holding a teddy bear. This statue sits on India Bahama Blue granite and is engraved with the police officer’s prayer and the names of the Scranton police officers killed in the line of duty. The police memorial is placed at police headquarters and was dedicated on May 11, 2011.
