The Greater Carbondale YMCA offers swim lessons grouped by age and skill ability, with small student-to-instructor ratio ensuring safety and individual attention. Each level of instruction is comprised of five elements: personal safety, skill development, personal growth, water sports/games and rescue. This program is a water orientation class designed for parent and child participation. The class encourages the bond of trust between parent and child, and teaches parents how to guide and supervise their children around the water. The child will be exposed to basic movements.
Preschool

The preschool swim program is designed to help children progress and build elementary swimming and safety skills. Children are placed in small groups with the YMCA trained instructors. Class emphasis is on developing the coordination, endurance, and self-confidence of the preschooler. Monday/Wednesday classes run for 4 weeks and the next session begins
Youth

This progressive swim program is designed to help children grow personally, as well as develop strokes and safety skills. Emphasis is on endurance, personal safely, skill development, and lifesaving techniques.
Swim Club
Mondays/Wednesdays, 6:30-7:15 p.m.
Swim Club is designed to help youth build endurance and further advance stroke development. It is taught in a fun group setting with lessons centering on breathing techniques, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly stroke, and flip turns. Swim Club runs and is set up monthly with a fee of $34 for Y members and $68 for non-members.
Arthritis Aquatics

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program is exercise without putting excess strain on joints and muscles. Gentle activities in warm water with guidance from trained instructors is designed to improve strength and flexibility, and decreased pain and stiffness. The Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program also provides a friendly and supportive atmosphere in which you can make new friends and try new activities. This social interaction can help decrease feelings of depression and isolation. Progress in the aquatic activities can lead to independence and improved self-esteem.
Y Water Sports

Played in shallow water, Y Water Polo, Water Basketball, and Water Volleyball promote teamwork, strengthen water skills, and get friends together for some wet fun. This program is for youth
Pool Parties
The Y is your destination offers a variety of pool party options (pool & classroom, pool & gym with the moon walk, or all three). For up to 20 people,the Y supplies three trays of pizza, juice, water, and all the paper products (additional charge for more than 20 people). Call for rates and day availability.
Fitness Classes
Group programs include a cardio class, and a variety of times for Aqua Jog class and lap swimming. Pick up a pool fitness schedule at the front desk.
