Former Carbondale Area teacher Joe Snedeker, now a meterologist at WNEP-TV, has never attended any of his own high school or college graduations, but will break that impressive record by attending the graduation ceremony of the Carbondale Area Jr. Sr. High School Class of 2011 as its commencement speaker.
Mr. Snedeker attended Carbondale Area School District schools and graduated with honors in 1984.  He then pursued a degree in Earth and Space Science Education/Meteorology at Millersville University, where he graduated in 1988.
At age 22, Mr. Snedeker began his science teaching career at Carbondale Area.  In 1992, Joe married the former Dawn Phillips, and they have three children - Joseph, 14; Luke, 12; and Aleah, 11.
Mr. Snedeker started working at WNEP-TV on weekends in 1992, doing the weekend weather reports and helping in the Meteorology Department.  In 1999, he left the classroom to become a full-time meteorologist at WNEP-TV.  He is the current anchor for the morning weather report.
Mr. Snedeker earned a masters degree in biology/environmental science at East Stroudsburg University in 2002.  In 2008, he began another aspect of his career when he became an adjunct Science Department Instructor at Marywood University, a position he currently holds.
Mr. Snedeker is known for his annual bike ride fundraising event to help patients at St. Joseph’s Center in Scranton, for which he raises thousands of dollars each year.
Mr. Snedeker’s motto is, “Don’t take life too seriously; you’ll never get out alive!”
