To guarantee that the history and stories told at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton stay alive, the National Park Service staff is holding a Volunteer Fair on Sunday morning, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair is intended to recruit and introduce interested people to the rewarding volunteer jobs in Steamtown’s Interpretive Division.
Steamtown Chief of Visitor Services, Mark Brennan will welcome all guests to the 40-plus acre park, and introduce the session coordinators. Steamtown is a National Park unit dedicated to preserving and interpreting the impact of steam railroading on the development of the United States. Interpretive Division tasks vary from presenting programs in the museum complex, staffing the Visitor Center desk to presenting programs on Steamtown excursion trains.
Later in the morning, the prospective volunteers will break out from the theater to learn more about the site and specific duties from employees, supervisors and volunteers already performing the jobs.
