Carwanna Restaurant has been a staple of downtown Carbondale for the past 85 years, with owners Dominick and Kathy Andidora recently completing the renovation of their new, more spacious location on Salem Avenue (having moved from one side of the old Newberry’s building to the other).
And now, for the first time in its history, the restaurant is being brought to a new location altogether — another town, in fact — by the Andidoras’ son and daughter-in-law, as the Carwanna continues to expand both its business and its menu.
Dominick Andidora Jr. and his wife Nicole opened the new restaurant, Carwanna Too, at 508 Main St. in Forest City on Monday, Sept. 19, after a whirlwind business arrangement and preparation period.
“We really did this all in about two weeks,” Nicole stated in discussing their decision to open the restaurant, then getting the business up and running once that decision was made.
In another week or two, she said they plan to hold an official grand opening.  So things are moving fast.
Dominick said they’ve already been getting a lot of feedback from the residents and businesses in the Forest City area.
“The building we’re using has been vacant for the past few years, so when we made the announcement about opening up the restaurant, the news spread like wildfire,” he related.  “People are really excited, and we’re very grateful for that.”
Carwanna Too is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.  For now, Sunday is an all-you-can-eat day from 12 noon until 4 p.m., $4.95 for children and $9.95 for adults.  The first all-you-can-eat Sunday will be a pasta dinner featuring spaghetti, meatballs, tossed salad and Italian bread.
“We’re going to try some different things and see if they work out,” Nicole explained.
Dominick stated that a homemade soup and a fresh dessert will be featured each day at their restaurant.  In addition, he noted that his parents will be introducing the daily soup and dessert specials at the Carwanna in Carbondale.
“But we want everyone to know that the rest of the menu will remain the same — the chili, the burgers, everything,” he was quick to add.  “And here in Forest City, we’ll have the same menu and hours as in Carbondale.”
“Hopefully the two restaurants will complement each other,” he noted.
Dominick stated that Carwanna Too will also offer free local delivery within its area of Forest City, Vandling, Browndale and Union Dale.
