Ann Fletcher Browning, formerly of Carbondale, died Sept. 26 at Spring Village at Pocono in East Stroudsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard N. Browning, Sr., who died February 16, 2012.
Born May 21, 1916 in Merthyr Tydfil Wales, she was the daughter of the late William John and Elizabeth Jones Fletcher and was their only child.
She came to the United States aboard the Queen Elizabeth in 1921. She and her family originally settled in Johnstown, then made their home in Carbondale shortly after, and she recently moved to Stroudsburg following the death of her husband.
After graduating business school she had her own business doing transcription for D&H Railroad. She stopped work to raise her son then returned to work at Marian Community Hospital, Formerly St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale for 30 years, eventually retiring as the Administrative Secretary.
She was a Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale for many years, recently transferring her membership to the First Presbyterian Church, Stroudsburg. She was a member of Elkview Country Club, the News Club, Beta Sigma Fi, the Woman’s Auxiliary of Marian Community, and the Carbondale Shade Tree Commission.
She was an avid gardener, enjoyed reading, golf, being outdoors and spending time with family and friends, especially her Granddaughter Hannah.
Also surviving are a Son Howard Newell Browning and his wife Carol, and a Granddaughter Hannah, all of Stroudsburg.
The funeral was Sept. 30 in the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Avenue, Carbondale, with services officiated by the Rev. Jay Best.
Interment will follow in Willow View Cemetery, Clifford.
