Michael Voglino, 78, of Carbondale, passed away on Monday Sept. 11, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Carbondale in 1939, son of the late Victor and Madeline Saurino Voglino. His wife of 47 years is Donna Gatto Voglino.

Surviving are four children, Michael Voglino, Carbondale, Kevin Voglino, NY, Paul Voglino and wife, Dawn Marie, Carbondale, Susan Kelly and husband, Jeff, Crystal Lake; seven grandchildren, Ashley, Kristie, Aiden, Brycen, Avianna, Kylie and Bianca; two sisters, Madeline Sanzo and husband, Ted, and Mary Skasko; three brothers, Augustine Voglino and wife, Mary, Thomas Voglino and wife, Mary, and Victor Voglino and wife, Suzanne. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lillian Berneski, Rose Ondrako, and Debbie Voglino; brother Anthony Voglino, and an infant daughter Anna Marie Voglino.

He loved his family and his church. He served as an Eucharistic Minister, devoted to bringing Communion to the local nursing homes and homebound parishioners. He conducted a Divine Mercy Holy Hour at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and was a dedicated volunteer at the parish festival, “The Feast.”

He enjoyed leading the procession of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel through the West Side of Carbondale.

Michael was an avid gardener who loved to share his produce with everyone. He enjoyed watching Penn State football and tennis. Michael was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was a master carpenter who retired from SCI Waymart. Many examples of his work can be seen around Carbondale. He enjoyed his daily breakfast with “the guys”, and was always grateful to his good friend Terry Shields for picking him up daily.

He was a former Deputy Grand Knight in the Jermyn chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He was blessed to have his friend Frank Caporali take him to their many events.

The family would like to thank his caregiver, Carla Barney, the entire staff at The Gino Merli Veterans Center, and Traditional Hospice for their dedicated and loving support; Sister Jane Connolly, Rev. James Price, and Rev. Paul Fontanella for their many cherished visits. Special thanks are given to family and friends who have supported Michael and his family through his illness.

Friends and family may call Friday, Oct. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m., at Lawrence Gabriel Funeral Home, 2 Hospital St., Carbondale. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Carbondale.
