Connie C. Buberniak, 73, of Carbondale, died Jan. 20, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She is survived by her husband, Jack Buberniak. They were married on November 20, 1964.
Born May 31, 1944 in South Bend, IN, she was the daughter of the late Verlin Joseph "V.J." Finster and Imogene Thompson Finster.
Connie had worked for the Goodwill Store in Carbondale for several years and later she and her husband operated Dollar Wise, a store located on South Main Street in Carbondale.
She was a member of the former Gathering Christian Center in Carbondale where she volunteered as a cook in their food pantry. She was a terrific baker and was known for her delicious pies. In 2014, she was featured in the Scranton Times Local Flavor Recipe Contest for her Grated Apple Pie and also won both first and second place for two consecutive years at the Carbondale YMCA's Fall Festival Apple Pie Bake Off.
One of her greatest accomplishments was that of a foster parent, where over the years she and her husband had opened their home to 65 teenage girls.
She is survived by four children: Harmon and wife Danielle of Logansport, IN, John and wife Pam of Rio Linda, CA, Richard and companion Jennifer of Carbondale and Kathryn of Carbondale, PA; six grandchildren: Douglas, Justin, John Anthony, Kavina and husband Kyle, Matthew and Samantha; three great grandchildren: Kiera, Devyn and Mackenzie; three brothers: Joseph Finster of Indiana, John Finster and wife Karen of South Carolina and Charles Finster and wife Benita of Kokomo, IN; several nieces and nephews.
A private visitation and funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale.
