William  M. Davis of Jermyn died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife of 45 years is Carol Bush Davis.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Lewis Miller Davis and Mary Morgan Davis. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Carbondale, where he proudly served as “Captain of the Patrol Boys.” He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, The University of Scranton, and Rutgers Graduate School of Banking. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. He was a founding partner of Lathrop, McGovern and Davis Insurance, and went on to join the First National Bank of Jermyn, which later became First Liberty Bank & Trust. He started his banking career as a teller and went on to become the president & CEO of First Liberty Bank & Trust.
During his banking career he took great pride in the assistance that he provided to numerous local businesses in helping them achieve their own levels of success, as well as the countless individuals that he was able to aid in their personal endeavors.
He dedicated his wisdom, time, and talent to many area organizations. He served on the board of directors of the Greater Carbondale YMCA, United Way of Lackawanna County, Carbondale General Hospital, Marian Community Hospital, Scranton Cultural Center, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, SLIBCO and LIFE, Industrial Development Authority, Guthrie Medical Center, Pennsylvania Special Olympics and Area P Special Olympics, Small Business Administration, Economic Development Council of Northeast PA, Governor’s Small Business Advisory Council, Tax Study Commission of Lackawanna County, First National Bank of Jermyn, First Liberty Bank & Trust, Scranton Chapter of the American Red Cross, Everhart Museum, Village of the Four Seasons Association, Glen Oak Country Club, First United Methodist Church of Carbondale, Junior Achievement and Allied Services. 
The family wishes to give thanks to all of the health care professionals in Mid Valley and Moses Taylor Hospitals, DiVita Dialysis, Dr. Neal Davis and staff, Naples Community Hospital, Florida, and the  Johns Hopkins Medical Center who were all instrumental in helping Bill maintain a high quality of life during his battle. Lastly, the family wishes to give special thanks to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart and nurses Lisa Molinaro, Annie Pepsin, Maureen Meradick and Kathleen Covey, who provided Bill with the aid and care that allowed him to remain in the comfort of his home during his final days.
Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Some of his happiest moments were spent with his wife, Carol, and their five grandchildren — Paige Davis, Will Davis, Olivia Nepa, Jeffery Nepa and Isabella Meo.
Also surviving are: his three children — William L Davis and wife Jennifer, Scranton; Gretchen Davis Nepa and husband Jeffrey, Jermyn; and Heather Davis Meo and husband Carmen, Jermyn; a sister, Sandra Davis Mitchell, Carbondale; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Morgan Davis, who died at the age of sixteen.
The funeral was held Monday, Oct. 17, at the First United Methodist Church, 20 North Church St., Carbondale, with services by the Rev. Douglas Posegate, Pastor, and the Rev. Arthur Davis.  Interment, Jermyn Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 Pm at the Oliver Shifler & Scotchlas Funeral Home, Inc  62 North Main Street, Carbondale and Monday from 9 AM until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in his honor to the Greater Carbondale YMCA, 88 North Main St., Carbondale, First United Methodist Church, or The American Red Cross- Lackawanna Chapter, 5454 Jefferson Avenue, Scranton.
