Barbara Gibbs, of West Hartford, Connecticut (formerly of Carbondale) died Friday, Oct. 7, at Saint Francis Hospital, Hartford, Ct. She was the widow of Robert Gibbs who died January 24, 2009.
Born in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Dowing Clarke. She attended Saint Rose of Lima Church. She was a member of the Benjamin Franklin High School Class of 1943, and a graduate of Saint Thomas Business School, Archbald, where she received an accounting degree
She formerly worked at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia. She retired in 1988 as credit manager at Hendrick Manufacturing Co. She also worked in the accounting department for Tri-County Mental Health Center, Carbondale. She was a member Carbondale Business & Professional Women’s Club, and the Marian Community Hospital Auxiliary.
Surviving are: two sons — David R. Gibbs and wife Melody, Unionville, Conn.; and Donald Gibbs and his wife Carol, Mayfield; a sister, Peggy Clarke Hutchinson and husband Ernest, Avon, Conn.; two grandchildren — Corrin Burke and husband James P., Canton, Conn.; and Justin D. Gibbs, Unionville, Conn.; two great grandchildren whom she adored, Ella Anne Burke and Aubrey Rose Burke, Canton Conn.; two nephews — Eric C. Hutchinson and E. Jeffery Hutchinson; and several grand nieces and nephews
The funeral and blessing service was Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Brennan and Brennan Funeral Home, Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale.
