Donald F. McDonough, 81, of Carbondale, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 26, 2011, at Carbondale Nursing Home after and illness. His wife of 61 years is the former Anne Weist, formerly of Honesdale.
Born in Carbondale, son of the late Harold and Charlotte Schermerhorn McDonough, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. He served as a Democratic councilman for the city of Carbondale for 18 years and for eight years as a Carbondale Police Officer. For 32 years, he was a custodian for the Carbondale Area School District. An Army veteran, he was a life member of American Legion Post 221, Carbondale. He was best known to his grandchildren as “Pop”.
Also surviving are three sons, Donald and wife, Cheryl, Waymart; Ronald and wife, Judy, Hilton Head, S.C.; and Timothy and wife, Nancy, Simpson; three daughters, Charlene McDonough, Carbondale; Michelle Cerra, Carey, N.C.; and Andrea Conforti and husband, Kip, Scranton; a brother, Gerard “Jack” McDonough, Universal City, Texas; two sisters, Judith Larkin, Childs; and Patricia Panzetta, Santa Barbara, Calif; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Robert, Joseph, Thomas and Bernard McDonough.

The funeral was held from the Lawrence A. Gabriel Funeral Home, 2 Hospital St., Carbondale, with mass in St. Rose of Lima Church. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Mausoleum, Finch Hill.
