A week after Pres. Obama cited an Ohio restaurant as a beneficiary of the Chrysler bailout, the restaurant closed.
Well, what can you say? This guy is the economic kiss of death, and he has been since taking office.
It’s sort of like when Obama was touting the solar panel company Solyndra as the poster child for his green stimulus projects. He pumped $535 million in taxpayer-funded loan guarantees into the company at a lower interest rate than other firms received, only to watch the whole enterprise go kaput. Solyndra went bankrupt, some 1,100 employees lost their jobs, and half a billion dollars in taxpayers’ money was flushed right down the toilet.
The FBI has of course launched an investigation into the matter, seeing that a key Solyndra investor was also a major Obama campaign donor, Solyndra executives visited the White House at least 20 times, and the Obama administration pressured officials to hastily complete a financial review to seal the deal.
Meanwhile, Solyndra’s CEO and its chief financial officer both took the Fifth before Congress, refusing to testify after having earlier said that they would — and Obama’s energy secretary claimed that the White House played no role in the Solyndra debacle, notwithstanding substantial e-mail evidence to the contrary.
All this after Obama visited Solyndra last year and hailed it as a “true engine of economic growth.” Warning: If you ever hear Obama say this about the company you work for, immediately start looking for another job. Believe me, your days are numbered.
Worse yet, Solyndra may just be the tip of the iceberg. It was reported last week that a California-based “green jobs” firm with a troubled history got a $1.4 billion Energy Department loan guarantee (three times as much as Solyndra) despite the fact that it was carrying mountains of debt. Not only that, but it turns out that one of the firm’s venture partners is the radical environmentalist Robert Kennedy Jr., a Democrat bigwig.
And yet, as Obama has been funneling massive amounts of “stimulus” into his pie-in-the-sky “green revolution,” throwing good money after bad by the billions to try to keep the dream (nightmare) alive, he has at the same time been waging war against job creators and entire industries like gas and oil companies. And it’s all because of his faith-based belief in green energy — green energy being one of the many fairy tales for adults that make up the liberal catechism, like Darwinian evolution, global warming, and socialism as a viable economic philosophy.

Obama’s latest salvo in this neverending war was to put off for another year (coincidentally, until after the 2012 election) any decision on the Keystone XL pipeline. This $13 billion project would create about 13,000 construction jobs in this country and could indirectly create another 7,000 manufacturing jobs here as well. Best of all, it would all be done without any federal loan guarantees or production tax credits from the government. Yet Obama took a pass on it. He essentially decided not to decide, for purely political purposes. As soon as he announced his non-decision, he received the endorsement of some environmental groups for re-election.
This all just goes to show, once again, that Obama is not nearly as interested in jobs as he is in a job — his own.
Not that any of this should be surprising. Remember that Joe Biden bragged that the person whom he and Obama called on their first day in office for economic advice was their buddy Jon Corzine, a like-minded liberal Democrat and Wall Street gazillionaire who had been elected Governor of New Jersey. Biden explained that they called Corzine because “we knew he knew about the economy.”
Obama even campaigned for Corzine's re-election, telling the voters of New Jersey that Corzine was, like him, “for the little guy.” But it didn’t work. Corzine had run the state economy into the ground through huge tax hikes and massive spending, resulting in the election of Republican Chris Christie.
Corzine then returned to the world of finance, where he promptly ran the trading firm MF Global into the ground. Last week, it was learned that some $1.2 billion (with a B!) of the customers’ money is missing, a matter that is under investigation and could lead to criminal charges. At the same time, Obama’s old pal Tony Rezko was sentenced to over ten years in prison on political corruption charges. All in all, not a good week for the president’s ex-friends.
Things are going so bad for Obama that two former Democrat pollsters, who worked for Presidents Carter and Clinton, wrote a piece in last week’s Wall Street Journal calling on the president to step aside and allow Hillary to be the standard-bearer for the party in 2012. They foresee a Democrat bloodbath next November with Obama at the top of the ticket, explaining that “he has clearly lost the consent of the governed.”
Still, Obama confidant Chris Rock assures everyone that Obama is getting ready to go “gangsta” in his second term, which means if you think his war on this country’s character, values, institutions, industries and jobs has been bad in his first term, and if you think the corruption from the Solyndras and the Corzines and the ObamaCare backroom sweetheart deals and all the rest has stunk to high heaven, then just watch what happens if he wins re-election.
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
