Chiefs keep D-III title hopes alive

Lakeland has vaulted into D-III first half title contention with a pair of recent wins to highlight boys’ basketball play.
The Chiefs (4-1 D-III, 7-6 overall) visited Elk Lake last night (Tues) and host division leader, Montrose (5-0) tomorrow night (Thurs.) in a game that could determine the first half. Montrose faced Susquehanna last Monday night.
Chiefs 76 Susquehanna 37
Kyle Kiehart (23), Eric Grabowski (17) and Ryan Nichols (11) led the Chiefs. Lakeland jumped to a 23-8 start and put the game out of reach with a 19-9 run in the next 8:00.
Chiefs 65 Blue Ridge 46
In a key game among contenders, Lakeland used a 21-12 second period run and 15-2 finish for the win. Eric Grabowski (25) and Kyle Kiehart (21) paced the winners.
Holy Cross 59 Chargers 20
Carbondale Area struggled through 11 turnovers, a 3-12 free throw mark and 5-16 shooting effort en route to a 32-11 first half deficit. The Chargers did not convert a field goal in the second half while ending the game with a 22.7% field goal effort and a 11-26 free throw mark.
Tom Mauro (6) topped CA’s scoring.
Riverside 80 Chargers 40
After a 15-15 first period, Riveride took control with a 29-5 second period run.
After an 7-14 start from the field in the first period, CA went 8-27 the rest of the way and had 23 turnovers. Isaiah McCord (9) led the Chargers.
Montrose 47 Foresters 29
Forest City battled to a 13-12 first half deficit but was outscored 20-8 and 14-9 in the final two periods.
Noah Fedak (14) paced Forest City.
Lackawanna Trail 57 Foresters 45
Lacka. Trail used a 15-6 start and 18-9 third period for the upper hand. David Cavalieri (15) and Dylan Walsh (11) led Forest City.
