The Carbondale Kiwanis Club held its annual Kiddies Day at Russell Park on Saturday, Aug. 7.
Children from 4 to 12 years old participated in sack and running races, pie and watermelon eating contests, a free-throw contest, and a raffle for eight boys and girls bicycles for four age groups.
Following the competitions, a free lunch of hot dogs, chips, drinks and snacks was served to the children and their families.
Volunteers who assisted with the event included the Greater Carbondale YMCA Youth Group, Carbondale Boy Scout Troop 8, the Carbondale Marine Corps League, Cottage Hose Ambulance Corps, and Roseanne Huddy of the City of Carbondale Dept. of Public Works.
Boys and girls bicycles were donated by Community Bank & Trust Co., PennStar Bank, Dr. Donna Buraczewski, Price Insurance Co., T.E. Spall and Son, Scotchlass Funeral Home, Adams Cable, and VNA Hospice (Olyphant).
The Carbondale News donated the prize of a $100 U.S. Savings Bond to a child picked at random from a group photograph of the children who attended.
