CARBONDALE — As the Carbondale Grand Hotel transforms into Hotel Anthracite, Ambers Restaurant is becoming Kōl Steakhouse. The highly anticipated steakhouse will offer a fine dining experience right in the heart of Carbondale.

Settlers Hospitality Group welcomes Michael Bodner into the role of Executive Chef at Kol Steakhouse. Michael is well known in the area for his work at Patsel’s Restaurant in Glenburn, PA.

“Chef Michael’s reputation for delivering food concepts on par with any of our restaurants precedes him serendipitously joining Settlers Hospitality at this crucial expansion point for our company” said Justin Genzlinger, Owner of Settlers Hospitality.

Kōl’s Steakhouse menu will feature items such as a 32 day dry aged New York strip, 36oz prime porterhouse for Two, avocado and peppadew bombs and healthier options such as baby greens and quinoa salad and salmon with honey lime citronette and saffron aioli.

Ben Sutter, Executive Chef and Partner of Settlers Hospitality shared his enthusiasm to be working with this Chef, “I have respected and admired Chef Michael for a long time. I am looking forward to working with him at Kōl - a project that is going to be a delicious dining experience and worthy of the drive to Carbondale.”

Michael graduated from the Culinary Institute of America with High Honors. During his culinary school externship and following graduation, he became Sous Chef at Arrow’s Restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine. Working under James Beard Award-winning chefs Clark Fraiser and Mark Gaier, Arrow’s was named one of the country’s top 50 restaurants. He moved on to be Executive Chef at Patsel’s Restaurant in Glenburn, PA. At Patsel’s he focused on seasonal, monthly menus which gained Patsel’s the dedication of AAA four diamond awards for 13 consecutive years. Upon the closing of Patsel’s, Michael and his wife Sarah opened Harvest Catering and Events in Dunmore, PA in 2014.

“I’m excited to start this new chapter with Kōl Steakhouse and Settlers Hospitality. I’ve heard great things about the level of excellence at their restaurants, and I hope to bring that same quality to Kol,” Stated Chef Bodner.

Pat Atkins, former owner of Patsel’s Restaurant in Clark’s Summit, shared her experience with Chef Bodner. “John and I enjoyed 16 wonderful years with Michael. He has great talent and expertise. I’m sure Settlers Hospitality will benefit and profit for having him with them.”

Kōl Steakhouse will have its grand opening on May 17th, 2018, and all are invited to attend this fun evening featuring live music, delectable food and great drink specials.
