Coffee Breaks: Motorists traveling through Northeastern Pennsylvania are encouraged to take a safety break at interstate rest areas over the Thanksgiving Holiday, Wednesday, November 22 through Sunday, November 24, 2018. Community groups will serve free coffee at rest areas through a program coordinated with PennDOT that’s designed to encourage drivers to “Take a Break for Safety’s Sake” during the busy holiday travel period. Breaks will be held at rest areas on Interstates 80, 81, and 84 as well as the Matamoras Welcome Center and the Great Bend Welcome Center. Interstate 81 South.
Public Meeting Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Green Ridge Street Bridge (S.R. 6011 Section 251) Replacement Project City of Scranton on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the North Scranton Junior High Building Auditorium The Theatre at North 1529 N Main Ave, Scranton, PA 18509. Starting at 6 PM. The purpose of the meeting is to provide the project team an opportunity to explain the project and answer questions on an informal basis. Preliminary design plans will be available for review.
There will be traffic issues on Sunday, November 25 on SR 2020 (East Drinker St.) Dunmore from 1 PM to 5 PM for Home for the Holidays in Bucktown.
SR 307 Bridge over 81 (Moosic St, Scranton) June 28 thru August 10 – Northbound side will be closed and traffic will be down to one lane each way on the southbound side as per the traffic control plans. This is for the rehabilitation activities of SR307 and abutments. These dates are all tentative and can be changed due to submittal approvals and/or unforeseen issues at the project site. The River Street on ramp to I-81 N tentatively schedule to be shut down on August 15, 2018. The ramp will be reopen during the week of by Wednesday, November 23. There will be a detour in place for the duration in which traffic will be directed south to Montage Mt Road Exit on 81, spin around back onto 81 North. The project will shut down for the winter by Thanksgiving. The project will resume in the spring of 2019 and no additional closing of River St off ramp will be needed. The current weather is the cause for the delay.
Bridge Now Open to traffic . SR 6011(Harrison Avenue), Scranton - As part of the ongoing project to replace the Harrison Avenue Bridge, the Central Scranton Expressway is a single lane pattern in each direction. The project completion is 2018.
