For the third straight year, PPL has received a perfect score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices relating to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace equality.
PPL earned the designation as a 2019 Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality for its commitment to LGBT-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBT community.

In 2017, Spence was one of the earliest signees of the CEO Pledge for Inclusion and Diversity — the largest CEO-driven business commitment to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Since that time, the company has implemented unconscious bias training; featured transgender speakers; hosted the Check Your Blind Spots mobile tour; and held forums for bold conversations about diversity issues, such as transgender transitioning and the Black Lives Matter movement.
