Mayfield Police Chief Joseph Perechinsky is reminding Mayfield residents' there is an ordinance, adopted in 1979, which regulates the soliciting of goods or services from house to house in the borough.
Anyone soliciting must first obtain a permit from the police chief which must be shown to any resident and contain the chiefs signature.
Purpose of this ordinance is to protect residents from scam artists and unauthorized groups from conducting business in our community.
Upon applying for a permit, the applicant must have proper identification, state nature of his or her business and give references where they have solicited and they will be researched by the police.
Chief Perechinsky urges anyone approached by solicitors who do not have proper permits, to contact the Mayfield Police Department through the non-emergency cox m- center phone number 570-342- 9111.
An officer will have the soliciting stopped if the proper permit was not issued.
